One of the rarest experiences in an artist's practice is working with a material that is not defined, and participants in artist Augusta Sparks' Exploring Softwood Cellulose Nanofiber will have the opportunity to do just that!
This two-session workshop will be an opportunity to work with Softwood Cellulose Nanofiber (CNF). This soft, wood pulp is ground down to a nano-size particle, suspended in water to make a slurry, then dries and binds into an incredibly light-yet-strong bio-plastic!
Participants will be introduced to this novel material and experiment and explore the innovative ways it can be used. The workshop is process-based, building on basic directions and expanding on them to support each participant's art practices and ideas. Material samples, early research, and artist examples from the University of Maine will be brought in to inspire. Participants will leave with in-process and completed pieces, as well as CNF to continue creating after the workshop ends. Perfect for people of all creative skills and skill levels, with no prior experience necessary.
